Urgent appointments for today or tomorrow

We currently offer a system of telephone triage ran by GPs and clinical pharmacist (this means that your problem will be discussed with a health professional over the telephone who will determine the medical priority).

The triage appointments are released on the day, a clinician will contact you on the  telephone number you provide. More details will be taken; this allows your problems to be dealt with over the phone. If you have a health issue that needs to be seen, you will be given an appointment with the most appropriate professional in a time scale that is appropriate for the problem. Urgent problems can therefore be dealt with on the same day.

Routine Doctor Appointment

Routine appointments with a doctor are made available for booking 2 weeks in advance. We offer these as face to face or telephone appointments, as preferred routine appointments are 10 minutes long. Routine appointments can be booked as soon as they are made available by using the NHS App or online services, or by speaking to a receptionist.

Nurse and Healthcare Assistant appointments can be booked slightly further in advance.

Clinical Pharmacist Appointments

You can find telephone appointments with the clinical pharmacist both online and by calling the practice.

You should book an appointment with me for any of the following:

  • Questions about your medication
  • Starting a new medication
  • Stopping a medication
  • Experiencing side effects from your medication
  • Changing your medication

In addition, you can book in for certain minor health conditions such as:

Hay fever, insect bites, eczema or skin complaints, nappy rash, cradle cap, eye infections, constipation (new problem), thread worm, hemorrhoids/piles (new problem), thrush, throat infection/pain, asthma flare ups, coughs (if it’s been less than 3 weeks) and low mood.

The clinical pharmacist also conducts medication reviews, for long-term conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma or COPD and routine/simple mediation reviews.

Pharmacy Technician Appointments:

The Pharmacy Technician's job involves processing everyone’s repeat prescription requests and checks things such as:

  • If your medication needs to be synchronised
  • If you need blood tests to monitor your medications
  • if you are due your medication
  • If you are under/over using
  • Making sure you’ve had your annual health checks or medication reviews

Part of their role also involves triaging or assessing a patient’s condition when they call in. They have a clinical background and therefore I can direct you to the most appropriate clinician, whether that is the GP or the pharmacist.

If you have questions about your medicines, you can ask to have a call back from the pharmacy technician - which will usually be on the same day.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)

If you are off work for 7 days or less, you do not need to give your employer a fit note or other proof of sickness from a medical professional.

Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or you can download it from the HMRC website. 

You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Home Visits

Please be aware that our GPs will always call to assess the home visit request first.

If you need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 11am.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby.

Life Threatening - Go to A&E

Call 999 or go to A&E now if:

  • you or someone you know needs immediate help
  • you have seriously harmed yourself – for example, by taking a drug overdose

A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a medical emergency.

Our Receptionists

Our reception staff have an important role to play in ensuring you are signposted to the most appropriate service, therefore we have ongoing training and mentoring for our staff. Please do not be offended when our receptionist asks for the nature of your problem. whilst they are not medically trained, they are experienced to be able to sign post you to an appropriate health professional where you can discuss your problem.

From the information you provide to our receptionist, if you have been seen for the same condition previously and it is not urgent they may request you make a routine appointment. They may direct you to a local pharmacy, for example for coughs, colds, indigestion, hay fever - details of the pharmacy minor ailments scheme. Please ensure the receptionist has the correct number for the health care professional to call you back on.

Not Able To Attend?

Patients sometime feel better before their appointment or are unable to attend and need the appointment to be cancelled, we would therefore request that appointments are cancelled in advance with as much warning as possible. We do send text messages to remind you about your appointment and you can also reply back to that text to cancel your appointment please ensure we have your mobile number on our system to benefit from this service. You can also call our reception team to cancel your appointment

Out of Hours

Enhanced Access

We offer pre-bookable face to face and telephone GP appointments for simple issues, pharmacist, nursing and blood test appointments outside of our core hours (from 7am to 8pm) and on Saturdays too. If you would like an appointment, please contact the practice and the reception team will book you an appointment. This services is sometimes based at an alternative practice with in Hackney but the reception team will inform you with all the details.
